Rocca dei Rossi Sala delle gesta rossiane

The castle, once the main residence of the powerful Rossi family, has been largely restored. Only the ancient embattled glacises, the keep and the side with windows framed with Gothic arches of the beginning of 15th century are still left. The building was founded by Pier Maria Rossi and the works went on under his successors, who transformed it into a typically urban residence with huge rooms frescoed by the parmesan school of the late 16th century supplied with imposing fire places of marble of Verona.

Particularly noteworthy is the hall of the Gesta Rossiane by Jacopo Bertoja, depicting historical events related to the Rossi family, as well as many rooms with barrel or cross vaults painted by O. Sammachini and C. Baglione, such as the Sala dell’Asino d’oro inspired by Apuleius’ Metamorphosis.
The Rossi Court join the School in the Rocca project, offering guided tours and animation for classes that can be booked and arranged during weekends, for a deep knowledge of the Rossi dinasty. The tours can be arranged between 6.00pm and 10.30pm for groups of at least 40 people. Reservation is compulsory.
