Dedicated to sound reproduction systems, the museum displays a rich collection gathered by don Giovanni Patanè. More than 400 items from phonographs to mp3, including a wide range of vintage radios.
Showing the most striking technical developments in music communication of 20th century and owned by Cnit, Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni, the collection on display has an extraordinary historical value, both from a scientific and a cultural point of view. Hosted in a former church (Ex church of Santa Elisabetta), the square shaped exhibition space has a circular heart mirroring the huge vault. Merging historical, social and technological issues, six highlight points and multimedia devices will lead visitors in a virtual journey from the phonograph to sound synthesis processes. Hanging from the vault at the centre of the church, a purpose made sound diffusion system will spread a sound message and electronic music written especially for the House of Sound, an ideal mix of sophisticated last generation sound reproduction technologies and contemporary music creation.
