Giovan Battista Borghesi
Artist, Giovan Battista Borghesi born in 1970 and died in 1846 in Parma
Giovan Battista Borghesi was entrusted by Marie Louise of Austria to paint the ceiling and the precious curtain of the Regio theatre.
His portrait of the Duchess, aged 50, is now on display at the
Glauco Lombardi museum while his self portrait can be admired in the National Gallery.
In 1818 he worked at the decorations of the Ducal palace of Colorno and he later restored the frescoes in the Ducal palace
of Parma (1833-34) as well as those painted by Parmigianino in Fontanellato (1843).
Thirteen panels, painted by Borghesi for his uncle’s house, depicting mithologycal scenes, are now on display at
Bossi Bocchi palace.
