Giuseppe Bertolucci was born in Parma in 1947 and he died in Diso (Lecce) on 16 June 2012
His film debut was as assistant to his older brother Bernardo on The Spider’s Stratagem (1969). He then worked on the scripts of Last Tango in Paris (1971), 1900 (1972) and La Luna (1979).
In 1975 he directed and presented in Locarno a “making of” documentary about 1900, entitled ABCinema.
In the same year, during the production of experimental programs for the RAI, Giuseppe met actor Roberto Benigni, for whom he wrote a dramatic monologue, TV shows, the film Berlinguer ti voglio bene (1977) and four other feature films.
Bertollucci’s directing credits also include Oggetti smarriti (1980), Panni sporchi (1980), Segreti segreti (1985), Strana la vita (1987), I cammelli (1988), Amori in corso (1989), La domenica specialmente (1991) and a Rai 2 miniseries, Una vita in gioco.
In 1994, he presented his film, Troppo sole and a video, Il congedo del viaggiatore cerimonioso.
He has returned to Locarno with Il pratone del casilino, a celebration of a text by Pier Paolo Pasolini, Petrolio.
