Antonio Barezzi
Antonio Barezzi was born in Busseto, Parma, in 1787. He died in 1867
Antonio Barezzi was Verdi’s patron and father-in-law, a fatherly benefactor who helped him throughout his life.
Verdi was presented in the grand town house of Antonio Barezzi, a distiller and grocer, by a group that gave public concerts and served as the town band in Busseto, inviting singers to take part in concerts.
In 1832, Barezzi became Verdi’s patron, took him into his home and treated him as if he were one of his own children and in 1836 the Maestro married his daughter Margherita, a spirited redhead piano teacher.
