The appointment is for Tuesday 6 September, when the historical center of Parma will once again be transformed into an open-air gourmet restaurant, for a thousand people.
A way to rediscover the pleasure of conviviality, after two years of pandemic, celebrating the uniqueness of the Parma system and the gastronomic identity of Parma Food Valley, made up of excellent products, traditions, know-how and people. The parterre de rois in the kitchen is completed by three starred chefs from ChefToChef Emilia-Romagna Cuochi and the Parma Quality Restaurants team. The event, promoted by the Parma UNESCO City of Gastronomy Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Parma, will also have a social value: the “Dinner of the Thousand” will in fact help raise funds for Emporio Solidale Parma. And it will be a way of thanking the health personnel who have been involved in the fight against Covid-19 for over two years: 20 operators of the Parma Health Authorities will be guests of the organizers.

The pre-sale of tickets for the 2022 edition of the “Dinner of the Thousand” will start on July 15. The official sales circuit is that of VivaTicket. Alternatively, you can go to the IAT office of the Municipality of Parma, in Piazza Garibaldi. The ticket costs € 100 per person, plus presale costs. As anticipated, a part of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Emporio Solidale Parma.

To the delight of the guests, two of the eleven three Michelin starred chefs present in Italy are expected in Parma: Chicco Cerea, “Da Vittorio” restaurant, and Enrico Crippa, “Piazza Duomo” restaurant. A choice that strengthens the ideal gastronomic twinning of Parma with Bergamo and Alba: they are in fact the three Italian cities in the UNESCO list of Creative Cities of Gastronomy. The first company in our country to obtain this recognition, in December 2015, Parma led the way, then supporting the candidacies of the Piedmontese and Lombard cities. On the occasion of the “Dinner of the Thousand”, alongside chef Cerea and chef Crippa, the chefs of the Parma Quality Restaurants team will be engaged in the kitchen – the consortium of restaurateurs of Parma and its province created to enhance the profound food and wine culture and local hospitality – and a delegation of CheftoChef Emilia-Romagna Cuochi, headed by starred Isa Mazzocchi, “La Palta” restaurant, Andrea Incerti Vezzani, “Ca ‘Matilde” restaurant, and Massimo Spigaroli, “Antica Corte Pallavicina” restaurant.

The “Dinner of the Thousand” will be the highlight of “Gastronomic September”, scheduled from Friday 2 September to Sunday 2 October. This is the choral project for the enhancement of the Parma Food Valley brand and the made-in-Parma product chains promoted by the Parma UNESCO City of Gastronomy Foundation in collaboration with the Municipality of Parma, under the direction of Parma Alimentare. Chaired by chef Massimo Spigaroli, the Parma UNESCO City of Gastronomy Foundation is an expression of the know-how and cultural identity that make Parma a model of excellence in the food sector on a global scale: a system based on comparison and constant dialogue between public and private, with the involvement of the Consortiium for the Protection of PDO Parmigiano Reggiano and Prosciutto di Parma and major players in the food industry such as Barilla, Mutti, Rodolfi Mansueto, Parmalat, Delicius, Rizzoli Emanuelli and Zarotti.
A system whose success also depends on the commitment of the restaurant world, starting with Parma Quality Restaurants, of associations, with “Parma, io ci sto!” and the various trade associations, and cultural, educational and training organizations such as the University of Parma, ALMA – The International School of Italian Cuisine, Giocampus, Madegus – Maestri del Gusto. During the two years of health emergency from Covid-19, the Parma City of Gastronomy Foundation has never lacked its support for the Parma area: in the impossibility of having the “Dinner of the Thousand”, they organized webinars for opinion leaders representing strategic markets for Parma food exports, incoming activities of small foreign delegations, twinning projects in the name of excellence, such as the one carried out with Épernay, the creation of the Parma Food Valley brand, the participation in missions abroad, as well as events such as Cibus OFF and “Settembre Gastronomico”.
